How to Layer Necklaces Like a Stylist
Mix lengths, vary textures and anchor the look with one statement pendant. Our simple formula for a layered neckline.

Layered necklaces look effortless when they follow a few simple rules.
Vary the lengths
Space each chain about 2 inches apart so the pendants do not tangle. A common trio is 16, 18 and 20 inches.
Pick one hero
Let one piece stand out, such as a solitaire or pear pendant, and keep the others finer and simpler.
Mix textures, keep one tone
Combine a cable chain with a paperclip or tennis chain, but stay in one metal color for a polished look.
Match the neckline
V-necks and open collars suit longer layers. Crew necks look best with shorter chains that sit above the fabric.
