How to Clean and Care for Fine Jewelry
Keep diamonds bright and gold shining with a five-minute routine, and learn what to avoid.

Diamonds attract lotion and everyday oils, which dull their sparkle. A quick clean brings them right back.
The five-minute clean
- Soak your piece in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap for a few minutes.
- Brush gently behind the stone with a soft toothbrush.
- Rinse in clean water and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.
What to avoid
- Chlorine and harsh household cleaners, which can damage gold.
- Wearing rings while lifting weights or gardening.
- Storing pieces together, where they can scratch each other.
